Tournaments and tours

The tennis calendar barely stops between January and November, and Stake lists matches from the top tours down to the development circuits. Bigger events get more markets; lower-tier matches usually show only the main lines. Every tennis bet also counts toward the Daily Races described on our Stake bonuses page.

Surface matters more in tennis than almost any other sport. Clay slows the ball and rewards long rallies, grass favours big servers, and hard courts sit in between. A player's results on one surface say little about another.

Tennis markets explained

Match winner

Pick who wins the match. There is no draw, so it is a straight two-way market — the most liquid line on every match.

Set betting

Predict the exact score in sets, such as 2–0 or 2–1 in a best-of-three, or 3–1 in a men's Slam. Higher odds, harder to hit.

Game handicap

The favourite gives up games: a player at −3.5 must win at least four more games than the opponent across the match.

Total games

Over or under a line for all games played. Two big servers usually push totals up; a mismatch often ends in a low total.

Tie-break markets

Will there be a tie-break in the match or a given set? Popular on grass and fast hard courts.

Set and game markets

Winner of a specific set, next game, or correct score in a set — mostly in live play.

Handicap example in rupees

You stake ₹1,000 on a player at −3.5 games with odds of 1.90. If the player wins 6–3, 6–4 (12 games to 7, a margin of five), the bet wins and returns ₹1,900. If the match ends 6–4, 7–6 (13 games to 10, a margin of three), the handicap is not covered and the bet loses even though your player won. Winnings go to your balance; our Stake withdrawal guide covers taking them out.

Tournament outrights

Before and during each tournament, Stake usually lists outright markets on the eventual winner. Prices shorten as favourites progress and drift when they struggle, so an outright bet placed before round one can look very different by the quarter-finals. That is far shorter than season-long outrights in football betting, which tie up a stake for months.

A few points to keep in mind with outrights:

Live tennis betting

Tennis is built for in-play betting: every point updates the probability, and markets on the next game or set open constantly. Esports betting has a similar round-by-round rhythm. Prices are suspended briefly between points and around medical time-outs or challenges.

Retirements, walkovers and rule changes

Injuries and withdrawals are common in tennis, and bookmakers handle them differently. Some void a match winner bet if a player retires before the match is completed; others settle it in favour of the player who advances. Markets already decided — such as the winner of a completed first set — normally stand.

Read the rules first: Stake's exact treatment of retirements, walkovers, changes of venue or surface and delayed matches is set out in its sports betting rules in the help centre. If you bet regularly on tennis, read the tennis section once — it explains every edge case better than any summary.

Tennis betting tips

  1. Check surface records Look at a player's results on the current surface over the last year, not just their overall ranking.
  2. Consider the schedule A long five-setter two days earlier, travel between continents or a busy week of doubles can leave a player flat.
  3. Be careful with heavy favourites Odds of 1.10 look safe, but one retirement or upset wipes out many small wins. Putting several of them into a multi multiplies that risk.
  4. Use handicaps and totals thoughtfully When the winner seems obvious, games markets can be more interesting — but they also need the match to unfold a particular way.
  5. Set a limit for live sessions Tennis never stops; there is always another match. Decide your budget for the day and stop when it is gone.

Betting is for adults aged 18+ and is not a way to earn money. Stake holds a Curaçao licence, not an Indian one — check the rules where you live and see our responsible gaming guide for limit tools.

Where to go next

Bet types, odds formats and cash out work the same in every sport — they are explained in our Stake sports betting guide. If you enjoy fast live markets, esports offers a similar round-by-round rhythm, while football brings the biggest weekend schedule.

FAQ

What happens to my tennis bet if a player retires?

It depends on Stake's sports betting rules and the market. Completed markets usually stand; the treatment of the match winner market after a retirement is set out in the tennis section of Stake's rules.

Can I bet on Grand Slams on Stake?

Yes. All four Grand Slams are listed, with match, set, game and outright markets. Men's Slam matches are best of five sets, which affects set betting and totals.

What does a game handicap of −3.5 mean?

Your player must win at least four more games than the opponent over the whole match for the bet to win.

Are Challenger matches available?

Often, yes. Challenger and ITF matches appear in the tennis section, usually with fewer markets than ATP and WTA events.

Can I cash out a tennis bet?

Cash out is available on selected bets. When it is offered, the current amount appears in My Bets and changes point by point.
